RTRA Says DEC / Police Blitz is Off-Target

01-Dec-2009

We've received several Ranger Incident Reports recently concerning a blitz on the Gnangara / Pinjar and surrounding areas.

RTRA totally supports anything that rids these areas of the idiots that dump rubbish, rip around in old cars, light fires or ride irresponsibly and / or without proper protective gear.

However our reports indicate that responsible family riders have been turned away for not having Off Road Vehicle registration; have been threatened with heavy penalties for riding outside the designated areas (which they claim is for their own safety!) and even for riding on roads within the Pinjar Off Road Vehicle Area.

In the Advocate of 25th November, Constable Capes of the Arson Squad proudly announced that they had turned away 250 Off Road Vehicles from Gnangara because they did not have ORV registration. What the...? The whole point of these areas is to provide a place that draws riders away from parks, reserves and other areas that cause community concern. How is the public good served by such pedantic application of a regulation, without even providing decent communications about a registration clamp-down (let alone actually providing infomation about how and where to get ORV registration!)
