Local Council Elections

18-Sep-2009

Local Council elections are happening in October. RTRA has written to all candidates within selected councils (where there are known issues) asking them to clarify their position on facilities for riders - especially for families.

This information will then be communicated to RTRA Members within each of the selected areas so that you can take this into account when making your voting decisions. A summary of the positions will also be published on the RTRA Web Site.

This project has come about because there is a wide range of views towards recreational trail bike riding within local councils and RTRA has long been advocating that councils need to move with the times and recognise - and plan for - the growing popularity of trail bike riding. There have also been cases (eg Cheyne's Beach) where the recommendations of Rangers have been ignored by Councillors, resulting in a popular area being closed rather than being managed.
