Gnangara Clearfelling Imminent

26-Jul-2011

Forest Products Commission (FPC) has advised that the southern portion of the Gnangara ORV Area (the area closest to Gnangara Rd) will be clear-felled within a matter of months - possibly as early as August.

The plans to harvest the area have been brought forward to preserve the commercial value of the plantation which is showing signs of drought stress.

The harvesting operation is expected to take around 6 weeks and will be confined to week days.  However once the area is clear-felled it will remain strewn with debris and stumps, and will likely stay that way over summer.  Eventually the area will be cleared by burning - which at least will get rid of all the rubbish!

The RTRA is discussing with DEC how best to cater for riders while - and after - the harvesting process occurs.  We'll advise members as soon as possible.
