Write to your local MP and / or Minister

Petitions and form letters are much less effective than a personal view expressed in a letter or email.  So rather than give members a letter to copy and sign we have developed a draft template for you to fill in your own details and personal experiences.

Use the template as a guide, but please use the opportunity to put your own views on why the government needs to support and fund the State Trail Bike Strategy.

A physical letter is best, but if you use email please also cc:  info@rtra.asn.au.   Letter or emails should be sent before the end of October.

Dear [Minister or the name of your MP]

Re: State Trail Bike Strategy

I am writing to seek your support for the WA State Trail Bike Strategy which was developed nearly three years ago but has not yet been actioned.

[describe who in your family rides (include ages), how long have you been riding, what benefits do you and your family get from riding - eg physical, mental, social benefits]

Trail bike riding needs to be better recognised as a recreation enjoyed by thousands of people in WA.  But there are many issues that are not being managed.

[give examples of the issues that are the most concern to you.  Here are you some thought-starters but please use your personal experiences / frustrations:
1. constantly decreasing places and trails to ride,
2. nowhere to ride with your kids except the run down and dangerous off-road vehicle areas,
3. the idiot few spoiling it for many,
4. confusion over where you can and cannot ride,
5. being treated like a criminal by rangers,
6. paying for registration but having nowhere to ride,
7. rider safety and injures,
8. conflict with other trail users
9. lack of places to ride in the southern suburbs
10. riders being told they can’t ride in an area because it is ‘environmentally sensitive’ - right up to the time that the bulldozers flatten it for housing]

The State Trail Bike Strategy can’t begin to address the issues until the government formally endorses it and allocates the necessary funds.

I hope that you will support funding the WA State Trail Bike Strategy.

Yours sincerely
