Albany - Cheynes Beach

Cheynes Beach was a popular riding spot near Albany - until Albany Council rejected the recommendations of their own Rangers and shut it down to ORVs in December 06.

Objectives:

To explore options for a solution that will address the needs of local residents and other beach users while allowing trail bike and quad riders access as a designated ORV area.

Activities:

  • Liaise with Albany council to understand the reasons behind the decision to reject the proposal to declare an ORV area.
  • Develop a 'community of interest' among the regular users of the facility.
  • Demonstrate and quantify the demand for a legal ORV area.
  • Explore options to achieve a solution that provides a legal riding opportunity for ORV users.
  • Generate community support for a proposed solution

.
Status:

Preliminary research undertaken into the issue.

Any riders who use this area regularly are strongly encouraged to register with RTRA so that we can develop an argument for the retention of this facility or a suitable alternative.
